NFL teams across the country are preparing for the new season, having recently added young talent through the draft.
As the excitement builds for the 2025 NFL season, tragic news broke on Wednesday, revealing the retirement of a former college football star and fifth-round pick.
New York Jets quarterback Jordan Travis has retired from the NFL after being selected with the No. 171 overall pick in the 2024 draft.
Travis posted the news on social media, deeming the decision a "medical retirement."
After just one season in the league, Travis mainly worked through rehab; he will be moving on.
Travis reflected on his football journey in his retirement note, thanking his supporters for helping him live out his lifelong dream:
"As I reflect on my journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. From having the opportunity to live out my dream at Florida State University to hearing my name called in the NFL Draft.
I am incredibly thankful for everyone who has poured into me throughout my life and career. To my family & friends — your unwavering support has meant everything to me. To the coaches who believed in me and gave me a chance to play the game I love — Thank You.
To my teammates — thank you for pushing me, supporting me, and becoming family. I am forever grateful for the locker room memories & brotherhood we built.
To the entire New York Jets organization — thank you for believing in me and providing me with the opportunity to live out the ultimate dream.
On November 18th, 2023, my life & career took an unexpected turn. I gave everything I had to the rehab process, but despite my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer & consultation with my doctors & medical team, I have been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply.
It is crazy how fast life can change. This is not the ending I had ever imagined, but I do trust The Lord’s Plan, above all else.
— “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” — Proverbs 19:21
Thank you to everyone who’s been a part of the ride.
With love & sincere gratitude,
#13"

Travis played six seasons at the collegiate level. He started his college football journey at Louisville in 2018 and went on to play five seasons with the Florida State Seminoles.
During his final season at Florida State, Travis was widely considered a Heisman Trophy candidate, just before a freak injury ended his season against North Alabama.
At the time FSU was undefeated, seemingly looking at a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Seminoles missed the bid for the postseason and Travis has been attempting to recover from a leg fracture ever since.
He finished his final season at Florida State with 20 touchdowns and 2,756 yards, completing 63.9% of his pass attempts.
Travis also posted seven touchdowns and 176 yards on the ground,
