Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas suffered what appeared to be a serious lower-body injury early in Friday's game at Fenway Park against the visiting Minnesota Twins.

After batting Joe Ryan for five pitches in the bottom of the second inning, Casas tried to reach first base off an 86 MPH slider from the Twins pitcher but stumbled after successfully legging out a single.

The 25-year-old Casas immediately turned to his side and grabbed his left knee in clear pain. He was immediately attended to by Boston's medical staff before being stretchered off the field. Casas was later replaced by Rommy Gonzalez in the game.

"Fans on social media were also quick to react to Casas' injury and his subsequent departure from the field.

“I couldn’t be more clear about this. If you’re making jokes about what happened to Triston Casas, you’re an absolute loser,” shared a social media user on X.

“OH NO Triston Casas is DOWN. Not good,” another one said.

Via a different X user: “Idk when we’ll see Triston Casas again, but it looked bad. Hoping for the best but how can you be optimistic about it.”

“The absolute last thing that Triston Casas needed. The man cannot catch a break. Brutal,” another post read.

“If Triston Casas has another major injury I’m gonna lose it. This poor guy has been through so much, he cannot catch a break. I feel so bad for him,” one said.

“Prayers for triston ❤️❤️❤️,” read a different post.

Casas entered the 2025 MLB season looking to stay healthy after missing a big chunk of the 2024 campaign due to a rib injury. It also hasn’t been a great season thus far at the plate for Cases, as he started Friday’s game versus the Twins batting just .184/.279/.306 with three home runs and 11 RBIs through 28 games.

The Red Sox may have to find elsewhere to address a need on first base if Casas is ruled out for a long time.
