NASCAR and Coca-Cola will honor 250 fallen military service members during a special program on Memorial Day weekend.
At the event, called 'NASCAR Salutes 250 Together with Coca-Cola,' three fallen Arizona military service members will be commemorated May 24 during the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The annual initiative recognizes and supports service members, veterans, their families and fallen heroes, according to a NASCAR news release.
Drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series and track vehicles will feature the name of a fallen service member on their windshields during the event to pay homage to their valiant service, the release stated.
The three Arizona service members who will be recognized are Sgt. 1st Class Johnathan B. McCain of Chandler, Sgt. 1st Class Glen Jacob Whetten of Phoenix, and Sgt. Martin Anthony Lugo Jr. of Tucson.
The fan-driven initiative was designed to go beyond recognition and, more importantly, to create "a lifelong connection between NASCAR and those who serve," according to the release.
Military members, veterans and their families will be able to experience the race with discounted grandstand tickets during the NASCAR season as well as complimentary grandstand and VIP experiences throughout May, the release stated.
