Atlanta Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski held a press conference ahead of the team's third week of OTAs on Monday afternoon. Per usual, it didn't take long for the focus to crap to Falcons president Matt Ryan's role.
Stefanski was asked what it has been like working with Ryan thus far, and how the former league MVP has impacted the franchise over the last few months. Atlanta's new head coach praised Ryan as a "tremendous resource" for the players, coaches and front office.
"I think Matt has done a terrific job just in terms of helping a bunch of different departments if you will," explained Stefanski. "Matt's role is unique where he can assist the coaches, he can assist the players, he can certainly assist the front office. You name it. I just think he has that unique perspective. He's been here as a player. He's had great success in this organization. But he's just been a tremendous resource, certainly for me, but he's touching all aspects of this building."
Ryan has been spotted throwing during drills at the Falcons offseason workouts, which has fired some of the players. Tight end Kyle Pitts has also been pleased to see his former teammate back in Flowery Branch.
"Man, it's a nostalgic moment," Pitts told local reporters last week. "It's great having Matt out here. He can still spin it like he can still play, so it's pretty cool to see.... He still talks the same. He's very rash. That won't ever change. That's Matt. But different, he's just in a different role. He's still the same person. I feel like he's wrapping me tighter under his wing from a different perspective as a front office guy now."
It's safe to say fans are almost 100 percent on board with Ryan's new role. It will be interesting to see how the franchise legend's presence pays off in terms of wins and losses when the regular season begins in September.
