Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Drake London has been in the news this week after agreeing to a four-year, $141 million extension including $100 million in guarantees. That's a nice chunk of change for a player with one career 1,000-yard season under his belt.
Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the news of London's extension during his Monday press conference and said the fifth-year receiver would miss Monday's OTAs.
"Drake London news -- I know you guys saw that last week," said Stefanski. "Happy for him. Deserving. You won't see him out there today. He's finishing up a physical, paperwork, all of that stuff."
London is the Falcons' only reliable receiver, so it was wise to lock him into an extension regardless of how much it costs. Stefanksi went on to praise London's mental makeup and competitive nature as reasons why the team wanted to get a deal done.
"He's wired the right way, and that can be said about a lot of our players, which I certainly appreciate," said Stefanski. "You know, he's a younger player but he's seen a lot, been through a lot."
London has racked up 309 catches for 3,961 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns since entering the league in 2022. His best year came in 2024, when he finished with 100 catches for 1,271 yards and nine touchdowns to lead the Falcons that season.
Stefanski also gave an update on Michael Penix Jr.'s recovery from ACL surgery, saying the third-year quarterback would be out on Monday as well.
"Mike Penix has a scheduled rest day today so you won't see him doing much out there physically," said Stefanski. "But he's already worked out and he'll be involved in all of the walkthrough portions."
Here's Stefanski discussing the Falcons' third round of OTAs at his Monday press conference, as shared by the team's YouTube channel.
