Ogden didn't play LT as a rookie. They already had a LT IIRC he played guard his rookie year and then became the LT the next year. I remember that argument when we drafted Big and put him at guard that the exact same thing was done with Ogden.

Jonthan Ogden's Ravens' Bio

Started 16 games at LG as a rookie in 1996, then made the switch back to his natural LT spot, and has cemented a starting Pro Bowl berth in each of the last 9 years...Was the 1st OL selected in the 1996 draft and the 4th player overall (after Keyshawn Johnson by the Jets, Kevin Hardy by the Jaguars and Simeon Rice by the Cardinals).

Note that Ogden still played on the left side (didn't have to change "steps," as it were).

Good lord. Ogden's listed at 6'9", 345. That's a big boy.

Hey my memory was right for a change.

yes Ogden is a freak of nature, not the player he used to be because of his back.

At UCLA every year the defensive coaches wanted him, and the offensive coaches would fight. He was always in track in the offseason so when he came out there were 2 knocks, he's "soft" and he doesn't love football.

Who the hell cares he dominated for years.

Of course the rumor is he told the Cards the night before the draft don't draft me, I won't sign, and that's why we picked Rice when everyone knew we needed a LT. No idea if it's true or not but one wonders how things would have gone if we'd have taken him instead, wouldn't have had to worry about LT forever IF we could sign him and keep him.

Not that RIce didn't give us some great years before he just sort of gave up so he could get out of town.

I agree that LT's were put there because the most talneted pass rusher usually came from that side but thing are starting to change and the RDE's are becoming more of the pass rushers. You have Julius Peppers, Leonard Little, Derrick Burgess to name a few. To me the bottom line is a guy should be able to make the adjustment if he's any kind of athlete.Heck, put Thomas at LT and Big at RT. I don't care, just get us some guys who can block.

I have to admit he screams Robert Gallery Deux to me but only because he plays in the big 10 and is a converted TE. I have read he too was a shotput guy in HS, great athlete, had the ACL done and is back playing well. according to scout.com he was 270 as a senior in HS so we're talking 50 pounds gain in college which is NOT all that huge for a guy that tall playing offensive line. Gallery was more like 100 pounds which is why I always suspected he was a big steroid user.

Its more like only 40 lbs. He is only a hair over 310 if he is wet.

Thomas has gained about 8-12 lbs every year he has been at Wisconsin. He will most likely only be 320 at the combine weigh ins. Which means only 10 lbs a year in 5 years.

I think Edge would be tough to trade at his age with his contract. Rememer the Colts tried and couldn't get a 2nd rounder 2 years ago.

He would only cost 5 Mill a year, less then what he would have costed when Colts tried to trade him, and in a cap rich market coming up, the conditions are far better to trade Edge then when the Colts tried to.

You have to look at the economics of the situation at the time when considering the Colts trying to trade Edge for a 2nd rounder, if they tried all that hard in the first place, which I think is suspect. Anyways, at the time not many teams had a lot of cash on hand to give edge a new deal he would want at an age 1 year younger then what we signed him to. The market that year was horrible, a lot of FA along with a dwindling cap surplus for most teams did not make for good trade waters.

Even with all of that I still dont think it will happen.
