I'm not a fan of the change either. A 32 yard FG is now worth 1 point if preceded by a TD.

I wonder if the team will be able to choose which hashmark they kick from, or will the ball be centered on the field?

I'll wait and see how much effect this actually has. Personally I'm used to essentially thinking a touchdown is worth 7 points, so at 10 yards I'm not even sure I would have minded eliminating the PAT, where a team just take the 7 points or go for two and risk ending up with 6.

Good question. I would assume it would be in the middle like they do it now

New extra point rule criticized over player safety concerns

Now that extra point kicks will be 13 yards longer, and blocked kicks can be returned by the defense for two points, there have been questions raised about whether we’ll see an increase in injuries suffered on extra points.

“Being on field goal protection is probably the worst job in football. I know that and all my linemen know that,” Bills kicker Dan Carpenter said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Well now they just went from a play that there weren’t too many collisions to a play now where not only is the defense coming to take that one point off, but also to add a chance to add two more to their score. For a sport that was trying to cut back on collisions, I think that you’re probably just going to add a few more on those situations.”

Matt Bryant: PAT change will make cold-weather games more interesting

Bryant said moving the line of scrimmage back to the 15-yard line isn’t a “big deal” to him, but he does think it has the potential to be a big deal for kickers who do their work outdoors in cold-weather stadiums. Bryant said he thinks the rule change “can make things interesting” in places like Buffalo, Chicago and Cleveland because of the impact that the elements could have on big kicks that we’ve taken for granted.

“A 33-yarder, it’s not the hardest kick in the world. It’s not a gimme, either,” Bryant said, via ESPN.com. “You’re talking about possibly having to tie a game and it’s 34-33 and you’ve got to kick it to tie it and possibly go into overtime. That will make things interesting for those teams. How bad would that to be to miss the playoffs because of a 33-yard extra point? It will make things interesting for those teams up there, I would say.”

Teams can change mind on extra point after penalty

In the event of a penalty, the team that has scored a touchdown can change its mind about whether to go for one or two.

For example, if the team that has scored a touchdown opts to go for two but is called for holding, the team can then go for two from the 12, or go for one. The only catch is that the 10-yard penalty also would apply to the try for one point, pushing the line of scrimmage to the 25 and making the kick 42 yards. Still, a 42-yard kick for one would make more sense than a 12-yard gain for two.

The same concept applies in the event of a defensive penalty. If the team that has scored goes for one and the defense jumps offside, the team can then go for two, with the penalty enforced from the two.

I heard on the NFL channel yesterday that teams can choose which hash mark to spot the ball on.

Should we just allow the punter to have the ball automatically to punt every time?

Just giving the punter extra time would make less drama rather than more. That is making it easier for the punting team, not harder.

Yes the saints missed one, it is rare though. It will still be rare but the odds are higher either way to miss the kick now. I like it. Especially for us, teams tend to miss vs us just because they know our guys are coming. Now itll be worse on them.

Good changes. For those of you complaining about change, this is just trying to get the percentage back to what it usually is.

Now if you want to go really old-school, then the rosters should be reduced to 50, and regular players should be doing the kicking, not a specialist.
