Rob Refsnyder, a former Yankees farmhand who played parts of three seasons with the big club, has abruptly retired at 35, according to a report.
Brian McTaggart, the Houston Astros beat writer for MLB.com, reported that the veteran outfielder opted to retire instead of signing with the Astros after being released by the Seattle Mariners.
Refsnyder, who was born Kim Jung-tae in Seoul, South Korea before being adopted by an American couple in Laguna Hills, California, played in 1,459 games, hitting 37 homers with 165 RBI.
In 2012, the Yankees selected Refsnyder in the fifth round (187th overall) of the draft. He signed with the team for a $205,900 signing bonus.

He made his MLB debut on July 12, 2015, and got two hits, including a two-run home run.
On July 23, 2017, the Yankees traded Refsnyder to the Toronto Blue Jays.
He also played with the Tampa Bay Rays, Texas Rangers, Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox and Seattle.
