Former Washington Huskies standout cornerback Thaddeus Dixon's rookie season in the NFL has come to an end before it could even begin.
The 6-foot-1, 195-pound New York Giants undrafted rookie free agent suffered the injury during a workout on Thursday, as first reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. The Giants placed the ex-UW and North Carolina cornerback on the team’s reserve/injured list on Friday.
Dixon played a significant role for the Huskies in 2023 under former coach Kalen DeBoer as the team made its national championship run and stayed on following year to be a 12-game starter for Jedd Fisch and then-defensive coordinator Steve Belichick.
Dixon proved to be a dependable outside corner for UW, opposite of Ephesians Prysock, earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors in his first season as a starter.
With the transfer addition of former Arizona starter Tacario Davis, at the time a projected first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, Dixon opted to remain as an outside cornerback and follow Belichick to UNC in 2025 instead of being a nickel corner at UW.
Initially, the decision paid off with the one-time junior college defensive back starting the first five games of the season for the Tar Heels.
However, Dixon struggled in UNC’s Week 6 38-10 loss at home against Clemson as he played 18 snaps at nickel, four more than he played combined at the position over the first four games of the season, while also registering a season-low 35 snaps total on defense against the Tigers.
Dixon missed the next five games due to a hamstring injury before returning to start the final two games of the season against Duke and NC State, which played a large role in why he fell through the NFL draft and landed as an undrafted free agent with the Giants.
