Following a standout season with the United Football League's Birmingham Stallions, former Washington Huskies defensive back Alex Cook has signed with the Los Angeles Rams.
The 6-foot, 205-pound safety last played in the NFL in 2023 with the Carolina Panthers. Cook started two games and made 10 total appearances for the NFC South organization, finishing his first season in the league with 11 tackles, with one tackle for loss in 155 total defensive snaps.
This past spring, Cook, a former UW captain in 2022 who ended his six years in purple and gold with 139 tackles, 4.5 for loss and an interception over 53 career games from 2017-22, was one of the UFL's best defensive backs in 2026 for the Stallions.
He recorded 45 tackles, one for loss, an interception—a 70-yard touchdown return—and a 73-yard fumble return over 10 games for the Stallions this past season.
The signing reunites Cook with his former college coach, Rams' pass game coordinator & defensive backs coach Jimmy Lake, who started 12 games and made 15 total appearances during Lake's head coaching tenure at UW from 2020-21.
He remained with the program under Kalen DeBoer, playing an integral role in the Huskies' run to a 11-2 season that ended with a 27-20 victory over the Texas Longhorns in the 2022 Alamo Bowl. After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL draft, Cook signed with the New York Giants as a rookie free agent.
Cook didn't make the Giants' 53-man roster, though he was signed to the team's practice squad; he did not make an appearance. The Panthers signed Cook off the Giants' practice squad to their active roster, and the former college receiver turned defensive back made it worth their bet.
He made his first career start two weeks later in a 27-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, which saw Cook finish with a career-high seven tackles, including one for loss. Cook also played briefly with the Chicago Bears during the 2025 NFL preseason.
