Jeremy Sochan knows Victor Wembanyama better than most players in the Knicks locker room. He shared the floor with him in San Antonio after Wembanyama arrived in 2023.
That history matters before the NBA Finals. Sochan saw the habits, physical gifts and pressure points of a player now leading the Spurs into a matchup with New York.
His own role with the Knicks has been small, with only five playoff appearances so far. But the 23-year-old forward believes his Spurs knowledge can still help shape the plan.

Speaking to the New York Post, Sochan outlined a simple approach to deal with the Frenchman.
“Being that tall he gets tired… Give him different looks and [not beat him up but] be very physical, and make him run. And he’s gonna get tired, he’s gonna have to take some plays off in my opinion,” he said (via New York Basketball).
That is not about reducing Wembanyama to one weakness. It is about forcing the 7ft 4in centre to defend repeated actions, move laterally and work before every touch.
Sochan has not been a regular part of New York’s rotation, but his information could carry value. Former teammates often understand tendencies that film alone can miss.
And his point is more than valid. Wembanyama can be made uncomfortable without ignoring his talent. New York cannot outsize him, so the smarter route is pace, contact and constant variation.
Still, the Knicks will need good execution from their main group. Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby must stretch San Antonio’s defence and avoid letting Wembanyama camp near the rim.
