Ex-Lakers superstar LeBron James free agency timeline reportedly revealed by agent Rich Paul originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The LeBron James effect is in full swing as the second wave of free agency continues to unfold, with several teams across the NBA believing they have a legitimate chance to land him.
Reports suggest that James has already met with the Warriors regarding the possibility of joining their organization, according to NBA reporter Evan Sidery.
“LeBron James is preparing to meet with the Warriors this week as an unrestricted free agent. After Draymond Green opted out today, Golden State has the necessary flexibility to sign LeBron and trade for Anthony Davis. LeBron leaving the Lakers is gaining significant traction,” Sidery wrote.
The Warriors were initially believed to be all-in on one final championship push with Stephen Curry, Steve Kerr, and Draymond Green. However, the Philadelphia 76ers have entered the mix and now appear to be a legitimate threat to lure James away.
“The Sixers now have a golden opportunity to recruit LeBron James to form a truly lethal starting lineup: Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe, Jaylen Brown, LeBron, and Joel Embiid. On paper, it seems like an ideal LeBron destination after that trade,” Sidery posted.
The entire basketball world is now waiting on James’ decision, as it remains the most anticipated storyline of the offseason. His agent, Rich Paul, has consistently highlighted which teams are realistic contenders and which are not, while also indicating that a decision is still some time away.
“I don’t think this happens anytime soon,” Paul said.
James understands that the world is watching and is currently enjoying the offseason with his family. Entering his 24th NBA season, the four-time Finals MVP knows exactly what he is looking for in his next situation.
Ultimately, the decision will come down to fit, competitiveness, and the best opportunity to compete for a fifth championship. For now, James still has time before making that choice, according to his agent.
