Through the first three months of the 2026 NFL offseason, the Eagles have made a large amount of moves and filled most of their holes.
As things stand, the Eagles can enter the summer feeling pretty good about their roster. However, they could sure up a few areas that could be potential weaknesses during the 2026 season, including their interior offensive line depth. Philadelphia has no proven backups behind starting guards Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen, and losing one of those two players to injury could derail the Eagles’ offensive line this upcoming season.
ESPN NFL analyst Matt Bowen suggested the Eagles could bring back Mekhi Becton, who remains a free agent after being released by the Chargers in March. Becton played well as the starting right guard during the Eagles’ 2024 Super Bowl season, which helped him earn a new contract with the Chargers last offseason.
“Becton produced subpar tape last season in L.A. However, a return to Philly, where Becton allowed four sacks and had a 71.2% run block win rate in 2024, makes sense as a depth/competition move,” Bowen wrote in his latest story for ESPN. “At his best, Becton has the size (6-foot-7, 364 pounds) and physical tools to overwhelm defenders.”
Former Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland, the coach who believed in Becton, left the organization this offseason. Becton would play under new offensive line coach Chris Kuper, who has no previous experience with him and might not be able to maximize his skill set.
But the Eagles are familiar with Becton from his one season with the team and need more guard depth, so the connection Bowen made makes sense. The Eagles would be taking a big risk rolling into the year with Drew Kendall as their top backup interior offensive lineman.
