PHILADELPHIA, P.A. (WJHL) — ETSU pitcher Michael Harpster was selected by the New York Yankees in the seventh round with the 218th overall pick of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday.

The Lynchburg, Virginia, native is the first ETSU player ever drafted by the Yankees and the highest-drafted Buccaneer pitcher since Landon Knack was selected 60th overall in 2020.

“This is such an incredible accomplishment,” ETSU coach Joe Pennucci said. “Harp is a tremendous worker, disciplined in all that he does and a great representative of our program.”

Harpster finished his three-year ETSU career with a 21-6 record, a 4.73 ERA and 209 strikeouts. His 21 career wins are tied for fourth-most in program history. He also extends the Buccaneers’ streak of producing an MLB Draft pick to four consecutive years.
