Well, this is an interesting nugget.
In his report from the NFL combine detailing buzz from around the league, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler mentioned a starting Denver Broncos offensive lineman as a potential trade candidate.
"Two offensive linemen to potentially be included in trades are Green Bay's Elgton Jenkins and Denver's Ben Powers," Fowler wrote on Sunday. "Both have large cap hits and potential value."
Trading Powers this offseason would result in a $9.775 million "dead money" salary cap hit for the Broncos, but it would leave behind a net savings of $8.38 million in 2026, according to OverTheCap.com. Powers is entering the final year of his contract and he's set to have a salary cap hit of $18.155 million this fall.
Powers, 29, is a starting-caliber guard, so he could draw interest from other clubs. Denver already has a potential replacement in Alex Palczewski, who performed well as a 10-game fill-in starter last season. Palczewski is currently scheduled to become a restricted free agent next week, but it wouldn't be difficult for the Broncos to bring him back.
With the new league year set to begin on March 11, Powers will be a name to watch.
