After Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart went 17th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday, two more Aggies were selected Friday night. The Carolina Panthers selected edge rusher Nic Scourton 51st overall and defensive lineman Shemar Turner went 62nd to the Chicago Bears.
Scourton will fill Carolina’s biggest need, pass rush, so his fit with the Panthers was an obvious one. As for Turner, he also has a chance to be an immediate contributor as part of a strong rookie class in Chicago.

The Bears have impressed two days into the draft, with their selection of Turner being a big reason for that. Turner fills one of Chicago’s biggest holes, as he will complement Grady Jarrett and Gervon Dexter Sr. on the interior of the defensive line.
The Athletic gave the Bears a solid ‘B’ grade for their selection of Turner. “He needs to be more gap sound but eventually could be a very disruptive three-tech for Chicago. The Bears are having a solid draft,” Nick Baumgardner wrote.
ESPN’s Matt Miller was a fan of Chicago’s Day 2 selections overall, as the Bears made strong picks after selecting Michigan tight end Colston Loveland in the first round. Chicago added Missouri wide receiver Luther Burden III, Boston College offensive lineman Ozzy Trapilo and Turner Friday night.
Burden was a value pick, as many had him as a first-round pick, while Trapilo will help protect quarterback Caleb Williams. Friday’s trio of selections also garnered praise from ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. “Good Day 2 haul for an up-and-coming team,” Kiper said. Kiper also listed Chicago as one of his biggest winners from Day 2 of the draft.
Bears fans are also pleased with their team’s draft thus far, particularly because of Turner’s potential. “This guy getting mentored by Grady Jarrett could be a problem,” one fan wrote on X. Turner will certainly benefit from veteran leadership as he looks to become part of Chicago’s defensive line rotation.
The Bears have three more picks Saturday as they look to round out an already strong rookie class. Turner is bound to be a big part of Chicago’s defense next season as the Bears look to become a surprise contender in 2025.
