If this guy is half as good as he was as a rookie on Madden football we are set!

He's the best guy available that fits our scheme as a coverage LB IMO

I liked him coming out of FSU. He was a big hitter but also a bit undersized. I'm not so sure about his coverage ability. Still, it doesn't hurt to bring him in.

Considering what the Cardinals have left at the position after the DWeed suspension this move makes sense.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...ie-sims-arizona-cardinals-strike-oneyear-deal

The Lions' No. 9 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, Sims has bounced around the league as an insurance policy with the Eagles, Colts and Cowboys over the past four seasons.

Speedy but undersized and lacking playmaking ability, Sims has been a below-average starter in run support, pass rush and coverage skills.

At this stage of his career, Sims is purely an injury fill-in to be used in emergency situations. His signing speaks to the Cardinals' desperation after losing Washington and failing to re-sign leading tackler Karlos Dansby.

With 2013 second-round pick Kevin Minter already making all of the defensive play calls in practice, Sims will likely push 34-year-old former Steelers linebacker Larry Foote for snaps on the inside.
The linebacker corps has gone from the integral asset in the NFL's No. 1 run defense last season to perhaps its biggest weakness in the upcoming season

man...looking at Sims' stats, he has fallen off a cliff since his third season in the league...which was six years ago.

This is fine as a placeholder move, but Sims is little more than deep roster depth at this stage in his career. We still need someone who can actually play in sub-packages.

I fully expect Sims to show up this year, exceed expectations and have everyone scratching their heads as to why he failed at the previous several teams :)

We now have the Martay Jenkins/Mac Cody/Bryan Gilmore version of an ILB crew.

Our best hope is that he can somehow be revitalized by the talent around him and the scheme.

Wait I take that back, our BEST hope is that Minter is a phenom and we forget about Wash and this guy never see's the field.

that is really our best hope. that Keim and BA struck gold on pretty much their entire draft last year and Minter is the last nugget to be mined.

if Minter's really good, that will help mitigate Washington's loss A LOT. Still won't be enough to get this D back to where it was last year, but it would still leave them being pretty solid to go with what should be an improved offense.

Minter will be great but we arent replacing Minter now, we are replacing Dwash. Can the guy beate out Foote? Well, if not, that means Foote was a good grab so bo big deal. I expect to land a FA or draft ILB next year.

and that is what sucks also about losing DWashout...in essence, even if Minter is good, we have 3 LBing positions that now really need to be filled. That ever elusive young pass-rushing OLB and another stud ILB.

ugh...so damn stuuuuuuuuuuuupid!

Let's be patient. Keep in mind at this time last year it was Washington suspended for 4 games and Jasper freaking Brinkley at ILB. Then we signed Los right before TC and while many were excited because they recognized his name, most people nationally would have scoffed that dude was going to do even 1/2 of what he did.

I actually think Foote could be good in a Paris Lenon/London Fletcher type of way and I'm optimistic on what has been said about Minter at camp so far.

There also maybe a cut before TC that can come in a contribute. I'm starting to be less depressed because althogh the loss of D wash can't be overstated, Kiem is not rod graves. I like signing Sims like this for depth and I know he'll be working the phones like a mad man to see what else they can do so the season doesn't get derailed.

I think they're hoping Kareem Martin is that guy. It's almost a shame we didn't pick up Vontaze Burfict as an UDFA in '12.
