Norway will take on England in the 2026 World Cup quarterfinal on July 11 in Miami Gardens. The match could mark a bit of heartbreak for new star Erling Haaland. The 25-year-old was born in Leets, England but was raised in Norway, gaining citizenship in both.

Haaland had the choice of whom to play for in the 2026 World Cup.

“I’m Norwegian and proud of it”, according to the Economic Times.

Haaland has become a new fan-favorite for the World Cup, especially for Americans across social media. TikToks are surfacing left and right on topics from his iconic reaction to his ability as a scoring machine and his reaction to trying American deli sandwiches. Besides being an impact and featured on many “For You Page" scrolls, Haaland has also had a huge impact on the tournament. He is among the top goal scorers in the tournament with seven and has led Norway to the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in history. Haaland scored both goals against Brazil on July 5, and securing their win against the iconic team.

Here are five things to know about Haaland, leading to his success and setting him apart from the rest:

Erling Haaland's world records

Haaland set a Guinness World Record for the standing broad jump. When he was 5 years old, Haaland recorded a leap of over 5 feet, making him a young athletic sensation before football. He also holds the world record for the most goals in the 38-game Premier League season — and in a debut season — when he scored 36 for Manchester City in 2022-23.

Norway's top scorer

In just 52 appearances, Haaland has scored 59 goals making him the top all-time scorer in Norway soccer history. He passed Jorgen Juve, who held the record for 90 years at 33 goals. Haaland has scored seven goals in the 2026 World Cup, tying him with Kylian M'bappe and Lionel Messi for most goals in the tournament as of July 6.

Wake-up call

Haaland wakes up every morning to the Champions League anthem. It is his dedicated alarm tone and it is the last song he is tired of, according to a Manchester City article. “I always get a perfect start to the day,” Haaland said.

Hannibal Lector diet

Haaland, listed at 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, has an unusual diet consisting of filtered water, cow liver and heart. He consumes around 6,000 calories a day, rarely switching from his diet. He will eat his dad’s lasagna on home game days along with the occasional doner kebab pizza or cheese and ham omelet. Or when he is in America, he seems to enjoy a deli sandwich.

Rapping dreams

Before The Terminator dominated on the football field, he crushed the rapping scene. Fellow Norwegian soccer players Erik Botheima and Erik Tobias Sandberg teamed with Haaland to form Flow Kingz. Though they created one music video, “Kygo jo” went viral in 2020 after Haaland’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund.
