Norway star Erling Haaland's father Alf-Inge Haaland hit out at the referees after England defeated Norway 2-1 in a World Cup quarterfinal on Saturday, July 11.
Norway took the lead in the 36th minute thanks to a goal from Andreas Schjelderup, but England equalized just before halftime through Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham's goal proved controversial after a goal kick appeared to hit a cable for a camera high above the field, which could have given just enough of a deflection to get the ball in England's possession.
Though Norway protested, FIFA later claimed that the "sensor in the Connected Ball showed no peak in the 'heartbeat of the ball' when in the air, and therefore no evidence that the ball touched the overhead wire and changed the movement of the ball."
There would be another call that went against Norway in the second half. What appeared to be a go-ahead goal from Torbjørn Heggem was chalked off after a VAR review resulted in a foul called on Haaland.
Bellingham went on to score the winner in extra time, sending England through to the final four and knocking Norway out of the competition.
Soccer journalist Fabrizio Romano made a complimentary post toward Bellingham on X after the game.
"Well done Bellingham and referee," Alf-Inge Haaland responded.
The elder Haaland was a great player in his own right, playing for Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Manchester City, like his son, during his career.
He also earned 34 caps for the Norway national team, playing at the 1994 World Cup.
