England and India are coming together at Lord's on Sunday with everything still to play with series level at 1-1 after Joe Root's unbeaten 99 rescued hosts’ jittery chase in Cardiff. Root has carried England's middle order for a while now and will again be the man Harry Brook leans on if the top order stumbles early.
For India, Lord's has, whether he likes it or not has become Rohit Sharma's stage this week. The talk around him has grown louder than the cricket itself, questions about form, about pressure, about whether this famous old ground might just be where his India career comes to a close. But BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has been quick to shut that down, insisting nothing of the sort had been decided and that Rohit remains part of the plans "as long as he is in the scheme of things." Rohit, for his part, has stayed above the noise and He'll simply want bat to do the talking at St John's Wood, on a ground that has already given Indian cricket some of its finest days.
India to win at Lord's on Sunday. Kohli looked imperious in Cardiff before his soft dismal against Archer but the time he stayed at crease showed that he is somewhat backed to his best. I expect that fluency to translate into a match-defining innings.
India's bowling has also showed that they can build real pressure and Prasidh Krishna capable of the unplayable delivery, gives them the tools to defend a competitive total or chase one down.
England's top order remains fragile without Root bailing them out, and I do not see that changing twice in one series.
