England star Harry Kane confirmed he played golf with U.S. President Donald Trump around "18 months ago."
Trump said earlier this week that he and Kane had played a round of golf together.
"I think Kane is a great player," Trump said. "I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He's a good golfer."
Speaking at a press conference in Miami on Friday, July 10 ahead of England's World Cup quarterfinal against Norway, Kane confirmed that he and Trump played golf — likely at Trump's International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“I played all right to be honest,” Kane said. “We played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach. So when the president invites you somewhere … It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him, and to play golf with him.
"His golf is pretty good, to be honest. I hope I can play golf as well as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. So, (it was) a unique experience. I’m just grateful he invited me down to play.”
Kane has scored six goals so far at the World Cup, leading England to a quarterfinal showdown with Norway at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday.
This isn't the first time Trump has been in the news this week for a World Cup-related story.
Trump contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino in an attempt to reverse U.S. men's national team striker Folarin Balogun's one-game suspension for a red card.
Though Infantino claimed that Trump's call did not influence FIFA's decision, Balogun did eventually see his suspension changed to a suspended sentence, making him eligible to play against Belgium in the round of 16.
Even with Balogun in the lineup, the U.S. crashed out of the tournament with a 4-1 defeat on Monday, July 6.
