Jonathan Loaisiga took another big step forward in his rehab assignment Sunday. He pitched 1 1/3 innings for the Tampa Tarpons, the New York Yankees’ Single-A affiliate.
The right-hander allowed one earned run on one hit. He gave up a double to his final batter, who later scored. Despite the blemish, Loaisiga struck out three and threw 19 pitches, 13 for strikes.
This was Loaisiga’s second rehab appearance.

His first outing came more than a week ago, when he threw a scoreless inning on just 10 pitches, including eight strikes. His sinker averaged 96 mph in that outing, a positive sign as the Yankees continue monitoring his progress.
Loaisiga, who re-signed with the Yankees as a free agent this winter, is recovering from an internal brace procedure on his right elbow, performed in April 2024, that sidelined him for the rest of last season. There is no set return date, but the Yankees hope the 29-year-old could rejoin the major league bullpen by the end of next month.
The Yankees are expected to continue Loaisiga’s rehab at higher minor league levels before considering activation. His return would come at a crucial time for a Yankees bullpen that has been forced to reshuffle roles amid injuries and inconsistency.
A healthy Loaisiga could help stabilize the back end of the bullpen and potentially set up in high-leverage situations as the team evaluates how to move forward with former closer Devin Williams. Loaisiga’s ability to induce strikeouts and maintain upper-90s velocity will be a key asset if he can stay on track.
