Elly De La Cruz makes Reds history not done since Pete Rose originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Elly De La Cruz has incredible physical tools.
But one of the most important traits for the Cincinnati Reds star is something that can often fly under the radar.
De La Cruz plays every day. That whole, "the best ability is availability," phrase is one that really applies to De La Cruz.
On Wednesday, for example, he's playing in his 268th consecutive game.
No one has played in that many games in a row for the Reds since Pete Rose:
Today, Elly De La Cruz becomes the first Reds' player since Pete Rose to appear in 268 consecutive games.
This season is as consistent, night-in, night-out, as De La Cruz has ever been.
“It’s the work you put in inside when nobody sees you,” he said.https://t.co/Y9Iq2JZ78mpic.twitter.com/9353PNajBF

De La Cruz isn't just on the field. He's performing.
Down the stretch of last season, it was almost as if his power stroke had abandoned him. This season, De La Cruz is showing off his potency once again -- and from both sides of the plate, too.
His 268th game in a row comes as DH, something Rose never had the chance to do.
Still, it's a great feat. Elly shows up and plays every day, just like the Reds would want him to do.
