Other than a trade, the Clippers' primary concern will be whether to re-sign Quentin Richardson, who signed a six-year, $45 million offer sheet Wednesday with Phoenix. The Clippers have until July 29 to match the offer.

With Bryant and Richardson both playing shooting guard, it would appear that the team needs Richardson. But Baylor would not say what the Clippers' plans are.

"With Quentin, we have continued to have conversations with him and his agent throughout this process," Baylor said. "There will still be dialogue with Quentin and his agent."

The Clippers traded reserves Predrag Drobnjak, Melvin Ely and Eddie House to offer Bryant the maximum they could under salary-cap rules. But the Clippers likely would have done so even if they hadn't signed Bryant.

"I'm disappointed because you don't have a chance very often to get a player of Kobe's stature," Baylor said. "We were very much in the ballgame. Our chances were as good as the Lakers'. We're disappointed, but life goes on."

That cleared up nothing!

It does say something. They are speaking with Q and his agent. If they just wanted to match they wouldn't have to do that. Looks to me like they will only match if Q wants to come back.

My guess is that they are determining if Q will become a problem if they go against his wishes and match. Hopefully, Q makes it clear that Phoenix is where he wants to play and live!

I don't know if the bad blood between Q and Maggette is overblown, but it sounds like it might be an issue. Teams can deal with unhappy players, but bad chemistry between key players is another thing entirely. Just ask the Lakers.

All things are pointing towards the Clips to match but... I hope we get Q.

Could we send them Jacobsen as an incentive not to sign Q? Could this be done after the 29th as a separate deal? The Clips sent players off to Charlotte without any thing in return to create cap space, why can't we send CJ for nothing in return for "cap space".

We wouldn't have to make 2 seperate trades if they wanted to do that.
We could do a sign and trade with the clippers (and absorb Q's contract with their cap room).

I think Casey jacobsen doesn't have that much value for a sign and trade.

We can't do a sign and trade with the Clippers. The clippers can't even do a sign and trade with anyone or trade Q until december 15th.

Teams are also not allowed to make deals to keep a team from matching.
