LUTCHER, La. — The bright lights of the Dogyard never phased Ashton Stark; they showcased his football success.
Stark has been a starting receiver at Lutcher since his freshman year, and his role has expanded to all three phases of the game.
“His ability and his athleticism and competitive nature have led him to a guy that’s playing 130 snaps a night for us, and I don’t think he would have it any other way,” said head coach Dwain Jenkins.
Stark showcased his productivity and durability during a junior campaign that saw 1,200 yards of offense with 37 tackles and 4 interceptions on defense.
He scored 15 total touchdowns.
“It’s just something that comes natural, and being able to make an impact on the game, it shows a lot on my character and trying to make everyone better around me,” Ashton Stark said.
At 5’10, Ashton Stark isn’t the biggest athlete on the field, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for in work ethic and 4.3 speed.
“Being a smaller guy, I’ve got to make myself the best person possible. So, playing with a chip on my shoulder gives me that dog mentality, and I’ve got to go out every day with it,” Stark said.
The top college programs in America have taken notice.
“You didn’t know what his height was going to do, but he always had elite speed from a young age. So, you always knew that piece of his game was going to translate, and that’s what’s happened. He’s been so dynamic with the ball in his hands, and that’s something that can transition,” Jenkins added.
Stark has received offers to play wide receiver at schools like Auburn, Arkansas, and Kansas State.
He is expected to announce his commitment on Wednesday.
