If one thing is for certain heading into next year, it's that the Philadelphia Eagles' defense should be at the better end of the NFL.
Ultimately, the offense will have to show us a lot, but there are plenty of reasons to believe this defense will remain elite from top to bottom.
There are multiple players on the defensive side of the football who have a chance to continue stepping up in a major way, and a youngster who has continued to prove he's one of the best young players in the NFL on that side of the ball.
Davis also got paid handsomely this past offseason, showing that Howie Roseman and other decision-makers in Philadelphia have a lot of hope in him continuing to be the type of player that we expect him to be.
Speaking recently about what he expects to happen this next season, Davis understands that he really has a lot of weight on his shoulders.
"I would say it's probably the standard that I've raised for myself," Davis said when questioned about what has changed for him personally since signing the extension, per the team.
"Every year we're looking forward to finding a new thing to get better at, whether that's technique, film watching, just understanding the game on a different level…
"It's exciting to go out there and work with the guys," Davis said. "We all lean on each other in those times and moments because it's going to be challenging. You're going to have challenging moments in the season. When we go out there and we attack the box drills and we do it as a unit, we do it as a team, because the offense is doing their conditioning as well. It kind of brings that bonding that we all talk about, how we need that bonding by trial, trial by fire."
I absolutely love hearing the young man come out and say he wants to be part of why this defense can be as good as everybody expected.
Davis continues to show us that not only can he be a very good player on the field, but that he's willing to be a leader off it. That's something the Eagles will need this season, and I expect that to be the case once again.
