The Eagles are already getting their money’s worth from Jordan Davis.
On March 7, Philadelphia gave the fifth-year defensive tackle a three-year, $78 million contract extension. Two weeks later, he persuaded former Falcons edge rusher Arnold Ebiketie to sign a one-year deal with the Eagles.
30 minutes before signing with the Eagles, Ebiketie called Davis to ask him about Philadelphia’s defense and how he could fit.
“(Jordan) told me the obvious,” Ebiketie told reporters on Monday. “Philadelphia Eagles’ defense, they are going to put the work in and play together, in sync as a defense. They are going to stop the run and have the opportunity to get after the quarterback. That pretty much aligns for what I was looking for. That’s why I decided to come here.”
Davis is the leader of Philadelphia’s defense, which is one of the team’s strengths heading into next season. By convincing Ebiketie to join him on the defensive line, that unit should only get stronger.
Ebiketie started 12 games in 67 appearances for Atlanta, making his biggest impact in the 2023 and 2024 seasons with six sacks in each of those years. He racked up his lowest sack total (2) this past season and played just 35% of the snaps, but it wasn’t a bad year by any measure.
The 27-year-old pass rusher ranked 10th in the NFL in quarterback pressure rate (16.4%) among players with at least 150 pass-rush snaps, per Next Gen Stats. He should make an impact as the Eagles’ No. 3 or No. 4 edge rusher on a deep defensive line.
