Edin Dzeko scored on his Schalke debut to help the German second-division leaders fight back and draw 2-2 at home to Kaiserslautern on Sunday.
The much-travelled Bosnia forward, who won the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in his previous stint in Germany way back in 2009, netted on 87 minutes after coming off the bench to cut the deficit.
Kenan Karaman grabbed the draw in the 90th minute after Ivan Prtajin's double had given the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Schalke stay top by two points but have yet to win in 2026 having drawn 0-0 at Hertha Berlin last weekend.
Over 62,000 fans warmly greeted Dzeko's introduction in the 67th minute and the 39-year-old quickly made a difference.
"It feels almost like a win," Dzeko told Sky. "The team showed really good character."
The former Manchester City and Roma forward's signing from Fiorentina is being seen as a coup for Schalke as they look to return to the Bundesliga after three seasons away.
