May 4—HASTINGS, Neb. — Dakota Wesleyan University had a successful Great Plains Athletic Conference outdoor championship meet over the weekend.

In total, the Tigers had six athletes put together all-conference performances in seven events, led by thrower Abby Magnuson's two all-conference marks in the women's shot put and discus.

The men had teammates Max Raab and Cole Holden both garner all-conference status in the men's javelin, Barrett Nielsen in the 400-meter hurdles, A'johntez Moore in the triple jump and Gage Hohn in the decathlon. The top eight place-winners in each event and top three relays are considered all-GPAC finishers.

Magnuson, a graduate student out of Buxton, North Dakota, was all-conference in both shot put and discus for the third consecutive season. Finishing fifth in both events, Magnuson achieved a mark of 13.36 meters (43 feet, 10 inches) in the shot put and 41.46 meters (136-0) in the discus. Doane's Madison Sutton won both events, claiming the shot put with 14.04 meters (46-0.75) and the discus at 48.86 meters (160-3).

Competing in the men's javelin throw, Raab, a junior out of Yankton, clipped fellow Tigers junior and Watertown product Holden by an inch to take fourth place with a throw of 51.24 meters (168-1). Holden settled for fifth at 51.21 meters (168-0) in the event won by Concordia's (Neb.) Emry Gutz at 57.52 meters (188-8).

Moore's best run in the triple jump saw him finish with a best leap of 14.19 meters (46-6.75). The Moorhead, N.D. product secured a sixth-place result as Midland's (Neb.) Robert Atwater was the triple jump champion at 15.04 meters (49-4.25).

Nielsen, a native of Kennard, Nebraska, competed in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing in eighth place in a time of 56.11 seconds while Doane's Zach Turner set the GPAC record in the event, winning in a time of 49.99 seconds.

Hohn, an Ethan native, was the second highest-finishing freshman in the field for the decathlon, coming in fourth place overall with a final score of 4,965 points. Posting a score of 6,282 points, Hastings' (Neb.) Rafer Severson claimed the decathlon title.

In the men's team standings, DWU was 10th out of 11 schools with 18 points. The Tiger women were last in the 12-team field with eight points.

Doane swept both team competitions, winning the women's team championships with 222 points over Concordia (163) and Dordt (149) while taking the men's crown with 233.5 points over Dordt (156) and Midland (115.5).
