The phrase “speed off the ball” has quickly become one of the defining themes inside the Ravens offensive line room under Dwayne Ledford. During an appearance on The Lounge Podcast with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, Ledford explained the meaning behind the phrase that players have already started repeating throughout offseason workouts.
For Ledford, it's about much more than simply getting off the snap quickly. It's about preparation, confidence, aggression, and creating an offensive line that plays without hesitation. While discussing the philosophy, Ledford explained how comfort within the system allows players to react naturally and play at full speed.
Veteran guard John Simpson recently mentioned the phrase as one of the first things that stood out to him about Ledford's coaching style, showing how quickly the message is resonating throughout the room.
The Ravens' offensive line has talent, but Ledford's early focus appears to be creating a shared identity built around tempo, strain, and physicality. If Baltimore's offensive front fully embraces that mindset, it could become one of the team’s defining strengths this season.

“We talk about it because you want the guys to be able to play fast… If we can get those guys to be the athletes that they are… make it so the training aspect of it, they feel so comfortable in their movements and their assignments that it’s all about playing fast. If we can get them playing fast, then it’s going to be hard to deal with. It’s also a little bit of a demeanor and how you carry yourself — that attack kind of mindset.”
