At halftime of Sunday’s Elite Eight game, the No. 1 overall seed Duke Blue Devils were up 44-29 over the 2-seed UConn Huskies and looked to be in control. After all, history was on their side, since No. 1 seeds in the NCAA tournament up 15 points at halftime were 134-0 all time.

Even though Duke eventually built a 19-point lead and UConn was as high as 16-1 on the money line at some sportsbooks, we all know the finish by now: Braylon Mullins hit a game-winning 3-pointer to lift UConn to an improbable 73-72 win and a spot in the Final Four against Illinois.

March Madness, indeed.

The shot also resulted a $615,000 win for one bettor.

One New Jersey bettor had placed a $300,000 wager on the Huskies money line at Caesars before the game at +205 odds that looked to be dead in the water for the majority of the game before Mullins’ improbable shot.

The Huskies are now a staggering 17-1 straight up and against the spread in the NCAA tournament in the last four years.

The shot was generally good for oddsmakers, though reactions were mixed among the oddsmakers that Yahoo Sports texted on Sunday night.

Another oddsmaker in Vegas noted that it was a “huge swing” for the house that UConn pulled out the win, while a third said he was going to lose no matter the result due to parlays tied to both sides.

One other notable bet that remained alive was a pre-tournament futures wager at DraftKings potentially worth over $1 million.

A bettor put down $77,000 on UConn to win the 2026 NCAA tournament at 13-1 odds, which would win $1,001,000 if Dan Hurley’s team can win two more games and take home its third title in four seasons.
