Drew Brees' birthmark has commonly been asked about across NFL circles. More questions may arise about its origin after his Hall of Fame Class of 2026 bust featured the birthmark on his right cheek.
The Super Bowl 44 MVP has commented in the past about his birthmark and what people used to call him. The name-calling has since stopped, but fans have continued asking questions about what that facial mark is.

Drew Brees' Hall of Fame bust
On Saturday afternoon, the former Saints quarterback became immortalized in the NFL Hall of Fame with a bust. Here is the special moment that featured Brees unveiling his bust at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
Eagle-eyed viewers noticed Brees put his thumb on the right side of his bust. The quarterback jokingly rubbed down the right side of his face that features a natural birthmark. The MVP of Super Bowl 44 has spoken about his birthmark in the past.

What has Drew Brees said about birthmark in the past?
That's not a scar on Brees' face at all, but rather a birthmark. When Brees was growing up, the birthmark brought him ridicule.
"Because of my birthmark, which I was obviously born with, I got all kinds of comments when I was a kid, about 'Wipe that whatever off your face,' Brees told CNN in 2012. "... All kinds of names. People would call me 'Spot.' I think they were trying to be malicious. They were trying to be hurtful."

As Brees grew into a college star at Purdue and then a starting NFL quarterback for the Chargers and Saints, he began to see that he could speak out and make a difference based on his past experience.
"Making fun of someone because they're different from you? That's not being tough, it's being ignorant," Brees said in 2010, per NBC Sports. "I want my fans to know that if you're making fun of someone ... then you are no friend of mine."
As an author, Brees wrote in his "Coming Back Stronger" book about a concept of getting his birthmark removed. He said that, like his arm, which gifted him the second-most passing yards in NFL history, his birthmark is a part of Brees as well.
"Instead of seeing it as a bad thing, I chose to see it as something that made me unique and special," Brees wrote. "It set me apart from everyone else. ... Now it's just a part of who I am. I wouldn't consider cutting off my arm. Neither would I cut off my birthmark."
