New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye going up against Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in Week 15 of the 2026 NFL season is being looked at as one of the marquee head-to-head matchups of the year.

According to Pro Football Focus’ Daire Carragher, Maye’s matchup against Mahomes will be one of the top five quarterback battles that will take shape next season.

Maye grew into being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL last season. The UNC product threw for 4,394 yards, led the NFL in completion rate at 72 percent and was the runner-up for the AP NFL MVP award. Maye improved from his rookie year in 2024 last season and led the Patriots to Super Bowl LX.

Mahomes has been the standard at the quarterback position in the NFL for the better part of the last decade. He has won two AP NFL MVP awards and led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl victories since entering the league in 2017. Mahomes had a down year in 2025 by his standards but is expected to return to form as the best quarterback in the NFL next season.

Maye’s Patriots exceeded expectations in 2025, but they are expected to be Super Bowl contenders again in 2026 with ample weapons around the team’s franchise quarterback. Mahomes will return from injury next season after tearing his ACL in Week 15 of last season, and he will likely get enough time to shake off the rust before his matchup against Maye if he starts the year on the shelf.

The matchup between Maye and Mahomes has the potential to produce a high-scoring affair with over 300 passing yards amassed between both quarterbacks, making the game a must-see affair.
