Drake Maye excited for Super Bowl rematch in Week 1 of NFL season

The New England Patriots returned to their long-awaited winning ways last NFL season, with former Tar Heel quarterback Drake Maye leading their Super Bowl charge.

Maye exceeded expectations in his second NFL season, leading all quarterbacks with a 77.1 QBR. Maye also threw for 31 touchdowns, third amongst all QBs, while his 4,394 passing yards put himself fourth.

Maye played well in the postseason, totaling over 1,000 scrimmage yards and seven touchdowns. Year Two for Maye ended with a disappointing, 29-13 Super Bowl loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

Good news: Maye starts his third NFL season with a Super Bowl rematch on September 9. Recently, Maye told reporters what that rematch means to him.

"I think it's a chance for us to get some extra motivation during training camp," Maye said. "You know, starting off with the bang like that, a chance to get an opponent that left a bad taste in our mouth. So, I think it's something for us that's going to really make us work. We've got to bring it Week 1 on the road in a tough environment. They're going to be hanging their banner and that's the part of it. So, I think it's going to be interesting. It's going to be fun. It's going to be a tough task. So, it'll be something for us to get some extra motivation and make training camp better."

Maye will have a brand-new teammate for this highly-anticipated Week 1 opener, as New England acquired Super Bowl Champion and 3-time All-Pro A.J. Brown via Monday trade. Seattle's defense is the league's best, but Maye and Brown will produce an electric combo.
