Drake Maye's Dad Admits He's 'Surprised' Patriots Made Super Bowl as the Family Scrambles to Fly Out for Game

Drake Maye's family is thrilled — but caught off guard to be heading to San Francisco to support the Patriots quarterback in his first-ever Super Bowl appearance.

"Like everybody, I'm surprised they made the Super Bowl," the the 23-year-old NFL star's father Mark Maye told The News & Observer,after the Patriots defeated the Denver Broncos to advance to the championship game on Feb. 8 in California — which the entire Maye family plans to attend.

Mark, 61, said he thoughts the Patriots "would be better than what people were expecting," calling himself "a little more optimistic" or "maybe a little biased," and said he's "always" been that way about "all of my kids' teams."

Still, Mark admitted, "Honestly, it wouldn’t have surprised me for them to make the playoffs. But to make the Super Bowl? That’s pretty tough to do," according to the outlet.

Mark, who also played football for the UNC Tar Heels like Drake, and his wife Aimee share four sons: Luke, Cole and Beau. According to the Observer, Luke, the eldest Maye brother, is currently living in Japan, where he plays pro basketball.

Mark told the outlet his oldest son is "going to hopefully get in Sunday morning" of the big game to support his little brother and the Patriots, who will take on the Seattle Seahawks when they meet at the 2026 Super Bowl.

Luke, who played basketball for the Tar Heels, plans to leave the next morning to head back to Japan, Mark said. "That's the latest that we've heard anyway," he said.

Cole, Beau and their parents will arrive in Santa Clara a few days ahead of the game and the quarterback's popular wife Ann Michael Maye will "be traveling separately with other players' wives," per the outlet.

The Maye brothers were all raised by Mark to play football, basketball and baseball. Cole, 27, won an NCAA title in baseball at the University of Florida, while their third son, Beau, also played for the UNC basketball team until his graduation in 2023.
