I know lots of people are still big believers in BPA. I guarantee you few GMs are. Most now believe you group your biggest needs and select a player who fits one of them; not necessarily the biggest need. Of course the later you go in the draft, the more BPA makes sense. No teams is selecting a BPA RB early if they have two excellent ones(injuries make it questionable where the Cards stand).
Dane Bruglar of The Athletic is a long time, talent evaluator. He’s good at judging transferable skills. That is players who are NFL capable. He says in his latest mock that the Cards take an Edge in Round 1. Of course that’s without knowing the QB situation. Nonetheless I don’t see Edge as a major need. First I think when Nolen plays, the pocket gets collapsed more often, even if they double team him. I have maintained the Cards should be playing Burch over Browning. Burch is the future, Browning is the past. He is good at using his speed to get pressures, but can’t finish the job. With Robinson improving, Sweat playing great and Nolen pressing the middle, I think they have the talent in house to distract QBs. Sure a major injury messes that up, but that’s true of almost any group. I’d love to see them pay Campbell enough so that he couldn’t turn down a contract.
The Cards have massive offensive needs. The early rounds of this draft have to be on that side of the ball. Free agency should focus there as well, dependent on who is available and their cost. Another Edge is a luxury they can’t afford.
