Maurice (Detroit, MI): Who is the best point guard in the league right now? I say Chauncey Billups.

B.J. Armstrong: The best point guard is Jason Kidd, hands down. He is the only guard in this league that can control the game without scoring a point. He can take the game from the blackboard to the court and execute the gameplan perfectly. He can also shut down the other players. Kidd is a controlled accident. He's in the right place and the right time doing the right things. When he's healthy he's the best point guard.

Okay, so i realise that controlling a game without shooting is tough to do but why is he the MVP because he can do that? It's like saying a guy's the best golfer in the world except that he can't drive or putt the ball. JK can't shoot - why ignore this weakness when trying to justify a viewpoint?

If he had said something like 'even though JK can't shoot, he completely makes up for it in other ways' and gave good reason then fine, but to put it the way he did is ignorant at best and homerism at worst.

AFAIC, his not being able to shoot is a liability and i won't buy into the MVP argument cause he 'can control the game without scoring'.

Good point; let me rephrase that to the 'best point guard' argument. Cause we all know Nash is the best point guard right? Right guys? :bigyawn:

Maybe no one cared about him, but he won three rings and has been a all star starter, not that bad, huh?

But obviously, his achievements never made him a decent analyst. (for further information see Barkley, Charles).
