MYRTLE BEACH — Dominic Fritton tossed three scoreless innings, Brady Donay homered and the Charleston RiverDogs earned the series win in a rain-shortened 2-0 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on Aug. 2 at Pelicans Ballpark.
Fritton set the tone early, allowing just two hits and striking out five. Over his two starts against Myrtle Beach this week, he surrendered just one earned run across nine innings. Yereny Teus followed with two scoreless frames of his own.
The RiverDogs (57-44, 21-15 second half) struck first in the top of the fifth when Donay demolished his first homer of the season. The longball marked the second of his professional career.
Charleston added another run in the top of the sixth when Dean Moss drove in Andreimi Antunez with an RBI groundout.
Inclement weather forced the game into a weather delay in the bottom of the sixth before the game was eventually called, earning the RiverDogs the win over the Pelicans (40-59, 13-23).
After a day off on Monday, the RiverDogs begin a six-game series with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers on Tuesday night at Riley Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:50 on the RiverDogs Broadcast Network.
