After six years with Tua Tagovailoa under center, the Miami Dolphins decided to make a change at quarterback this offseason, releasing the former first-round pick and signing Malik Willis to a three-year deal in free agency to take his place.
While Willis has been in the league for four years, he's only appeared in 22 games and started six. In those opportunities, he's led teams to a 3-3 record while completing 67.7% of his passes for 1,322 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions. He also added 405 yards and four scores on the ground.
Miami's quarterback room also boasts 2025 sixth-round pick Cam Miller and 2025 seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers. However, the presence of those two shouldn't keep the Dolphins from targeting another quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft. In fact, ESPN's Benjamin Solak recently identified Penn State's Drew Allar as a fit for Miami in the fourth round.
"Allar can make anticipation throws into tight windows against the sideline or the middle of the field, and that's tough to teach... using an early-Day 3 pick on Allar would allow him to beat out Quinn Ewers for the QB2 job and challenge for the QB1 reps if Willis struggles," Solak wrote.
Allar, 22, was a five-star recruit out of Medina High School in Medina, Ohio, before arriving at Penn State in 2022. With the Nittany Lions, he completed 63.2% of his passes for 7,402 yards, 61 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in 45 games.
A season-ending ankle injury in October ended his final collegiate season early, but he should be ready to go for Week 1. At the very least, it's good to have competition at the most important position.
