Dolphins had zero interest in re-signing top cornerback from last year

The Miami Dolphins are under new leadership after hiring new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and new head coach Jeff Hafley. They’re also in the midst of their latest rebuild attempt — prioritizing younger (and cheaper) players over pricey, older options. For those reasons, the team reportedly had no interest in re-signing their top cornerback from the 2025 season — Rasul Douglas. Douglas signed a one-year, up to $3.8 million deal with the Washington Commanders on Monday.


Barry Jackson — longtime Dolphins reporter — reported via social media that Sullivan and the rest of the Miami Dolphins’ decision makers made no offers to the soon-to-be 32-year old Douglas during the offseason, despite have a secondary room full of mostly inexperienced, unproven players.

Per source, Dolphins surprisingly never made an offer of any kind to Rasul Douglas, their top cornerback last season. He agreed to a one-year deal with Washington today; deal could be worth up to $3.8 M.

While playing on a one-year, $1.57 million deal in Miami last year, Douglas totaled 62 combined tackles, two interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, 2 tackles for loss and 2 quarterback hits.


To replace the accomplished veteran, the Dolphins used their second of two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft on cornerback Chris Johnson of San Diego State. In 2025, Johnson had 4 interceptions, 9 passes defensed, a forced fumble and 49 combined tackles.
