The Miami Dolphins have a lot of questions that need to be answered on the offensive side of the ball, especially at some of the most important positions, including at tight end, where the team is rather thin.
Over the last few months, Miami has lost Darren Waller, Julian Hill and Jalin Conyers from the room. They've brought back Greg Dulcich, signed Ben Sims and Cole Turner in free agency and drafted Will Kacmarek and Seydou Traore in the third and fifth rounds respectively.
With Dulcich likely leading the room in 2026, many are wondering if the Dolphins will try to add to the position, including ESPN's Seth Walder, who put together a mock trade for Miami that lands them Cole Kmet for a 2027 fourth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.
"The Dolphins might be rebuilding, but they still need talent, especially to give quarterback Malik Willis a chance," Walder wrote. "Kmet would immediately be the presumptive starter in a trade like this, adding value to Miami's offense as a receiver and as a blocker. The receivers currently on Miami's roster combined for 73 receptions and 888 receiving yards last season."
Kmet, 27, played collegiately at Notre Dame from 2017-19 before the Chicago Bears took him in the second round (No. 43 overall) of the 2020 NFL draft. In six seasons in Chicago, he's caught 288 passes for 2,939 yards and 21 touchdowns in 100 games.
While Kmet has definitely been the better player for longer, their 17-game averages aren't that different. Dulcich averages 37 receptions for 438 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games while Kmet averages 49 receptions for 500 yards and four touchdowns.
Is that difference, at this point in their rebuild, enough to get them to make a trade? Time will tell.
