It's named after the Dutch province of Zeeland, obvs :)

Yes, I actually knew that. Yes, I also looked it up to make sure I was right in knowing that :)
you would think..that with the persecution and such that caused people to flee to new continents to find a fair chance at making a life... they would want to separate themselves from the places that mistreated them.
if you cant just name it Myburgh...at least go with NotYork, NotEngland, NotJersey...etc
by naming these places "New"...they sound as steady replacements for the horrible places you had to flee from.

I'm going to agree with you. I am absolutely NOT a history buff but the only thing I can figure out is the first settlers came with the intention of expanding England's grasp of territory. Then after a while they said poo to that and went rouge.
I have learned a lot about American and World history that was never taught in American schools though, but that's for P & R I suppose.

Might be taught differently on the east coast where it all happened. @Stout

For decades, almost centuries, they were absolutely and one hundred percent loyal to the crown. It was only in the latter stages of their connection to the crown, when they felt the abuses of a lack of representation, that they wanted to break from the crown. And even then, a lot of them didn't want to do it. This is the most basic of American history.
