The Los Angeles Dodgers are the World Series favorites this season, and that's not the only top prize of the 2026 season that they're currently the favorites for.

With the MLB trade deadline just a few days away, the Dodgers' needs have taken shape. Catching depth couldn't hurt, and an upgrade to the offense could be in play. But the starting rotation needs some help with Shohei Ohtani, a question mark this season.

Fortunately, there are plenty of good starters available, including Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers. According to ESPN's Jeff Passan on SportsCenter, the Dodgers are the "favorites" to land Skubal in a very exciting update.

Dodgers are 'favorites' to win Tarik Skubal sweepstakes

"Yeah, Tarik Skubal is going to be traded," Passan said. "... Teams that are being cited as the biggest threats, though, the Milwaukee Brewers, who have a tremendous farm system, and of course the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the favorites at this point, and frankly have been since the possibility of Tarik Skubal getting traded for his service a couple months ago."

While the Milwaukee Brewers are one of the top contenders for Skubal this season, the Dodgers are the real favorites to land the back-to-back Cy Young-winning ace.

Teams like the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, and Tampa Bay Rays will also be mentioned in trade rumors, but the Dodgers are the most likely landing spot for the Tigers' left-hander this season.

Skubal is in the final year of club control and is just a three-month rental. But, as rentals go, there's not a more expensive one than Skubal.

However, the Dodgers should have no qualms spending the massive cost to land Skubal, as he'd be one of the few players who could significantly increase the Dodgers' World Series odds if acquired at the deadline.

He has a 2.79 ERA this season and would be a huge upgrade for the rotation come the postseason. With Ohtani a question mark for the rest of the season, and both Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow coming back from injury, having one more good starter makes sense.

The Dodgers are the favorites to trade for Skubal this summer, and if they could actually pull off such a move, the rest of Major League Baseball would be infuriated that the Dodgers landed another star.

Skubal to the Dodgers seems like a real possibility to happen, with the Tigers fully expected to trade the lefty by the August 3 deadline. While he could still go elsewhere, the Dodgers are the favorites, with a strong chance to land Skubal very soon.
