Of course the crown jewel of the 2026 MLB trade deadline is Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal, who could be dealt with unrestricted free agency looming this winter. And there's one team who has the deepest of pockets and who needs starting pitching behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto: The Los Angeles Dodgers.
So could the Dodgers pull off another incredible move and trade for the two-time Cy Young hurler? Let's say it sounds complicated at the moment.
ESPN's Jeff Passan went on Threads to answer fan questions and had this to say when asked if the Dodgers would deal for him: "That's my guess, yes."
There was also this: "As motivated as the Rays are to make a splash, as much as the Braves could benefit from pairing Skubal with Chris Sale … he makes a lot of sense with the Dodgers, particularly with Shohei Ohtani's knee leaving his pitching in question."
But the Los Angeles Times had a different take with reporting:
Hmmm. We'll see! There's a lot of time before the deadline.
That would be Monday, Aug. 3 at 6 p.m. ET.

With a week to go before the MLB trade deadline on Aug. 3, the Dodgers don’t appear to be moving toward a trade for Skubal, according to people with knowledge of the situation not authorized to speak publicly. And it’s unclear whether the Tigers will indeed trade him; rival executives’ expectations appear to be inconsistent.
Hmmm. We'll see! There's a lot of time before the deadline.
