Dodgers predicted to trade for Tigers' Tarik Skubal in move that'd demoralize rest of MLB originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are, once again, in need of more starting pitching help. They've dealt with injuries in their rotation the last few years, though it hasn't stopped them from winning World Series titles.
With the Dodgers' need for more starting pitching help, it would not be a surprise at all if they pursued the best pitchers available for trade this year.
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer is predicting the Dodgers will swing a trade for a new starter, except it's not just any starter, but two-time Cy Young Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.
"The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees both come to mind, as do the Atlanta Braves," Rymer writes. "... Just sayin': When Joel Reuter ranked the farm systems in April, he had the Dodgers at No. 3. Prediction: Traded to Dodgers."
If the Dodgers were actually to make such a massive move, it would surely demoralize the rest of Major League Baseball. The Dodgers are already a superteam; they don't need someone like Skubal. And yet, they might be the best fit.
Dodgers predicted to trade for Tarik Skubal and demoralize MLB
At 31-19, the Dodgers are the best team in the NL West through May 21st, but there are some clear concerns about the starting rotation.
Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are both hurt, while Emmet Sheehan has a 4.93 ERA, Roki Sasaki has a 5.09 ERA, and there is reason to be cautious about Justin Wrobleski maintaining this elite production all year.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani have been great this year, but the Dodgers do have reason to explore outside additions.
And with a great farm system, why not go out and acquire someone like Skubal if he's actually made available?

The Tigers are 20-30, and could fall even further out of the playoff race by the trade deadline. If such a scenario happened, Skubal would certainly be a player worth exploring trade offers for.
And while teams like the New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves might be suitors and have interest, there might not be a team with a better package they could offer than what the Dodgers can put together for Skubal.
If the Dodgers and Tigers pulled this blockbuster off, as Rymer is predicting, then it'd be hard for teams around baseball not to feel a bit demoralized, as the Dodgers' landing Skubal might be the worst-case scenario for teams and fans around baseball.
