Dodgers now predicted to go shock baseball by making trade that would break baseball originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
I don't think it's crazy to say that if Tarik Skubal gets traded, the Los Angeles Dodgers are going to be the team that wins the sweepstakes.
The Dodgers continue to prove that they'll do all they can to ensure they have a chance to win, and landing the best starter in baseball would help them do just that. The only question the Dodgers must consider is whether it's smart to move on from assets now or just focus on landing him in the offseason.
One writer believes the Dodgers are going to skip the offseason talk and land him now, going as far as to say that the Detroit Tigers have to move on from him now, otherwise it'd be malpractice.
“If Skubal ends up getting moved, he will be the prize of the summer. The two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner is going to be a free agent after the season and the Tigers are bad, despite two straight wins. The Tigers are 28-39 on the season right now.
“Getting Skubal back on the mound every fifth day will be great, but the Tigers need to learn from the Los Angeles Angels' mistake with Shohei Ohtani. The Angels could've flipped Ohtani, but instead let him walk in free agency for no reason. If the Tigers aren't in contention, it would be malpractice to not consider a move,” Patrick McAvoy of SI wrote.
The one other scenario the Dodgers have to watch out for is Skubal even being available. There's obviously hope and expectation around the league from some contenders that he will be, but the Tigers have the final say on all of that.
