Despite a strong outing by Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t get the bats going and fell 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel to the San Diego Padres.
The Dodgers couldn’t overcome the pitching of the Padres’ Michael King, who went seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, four hits allowed and two walks.

Padres closer Mason Miller initially seemed to be struggling and walked a pair of batters, but then he slammed the door shut, picking up his 15th save in the process.
The closest the Dodgers came to tying the score was Hyeseong Kim, who hit third base with a head of steam in the top of the sixth inning but was held up by third base coach Dino Ebel, despite Fernando Tatis bobbling the potential throw home.
How did Yoshinobu Yamamoto do?
Yamamoto gave up a first-inning home run but otherwise was stellar, going seven innings with eight strikeouts, three hits and two walks.
Despite that, though, he gets the loss, resulting in a losing record of 3-4.
What’s next for the Dodgers?
The Dodgers (29-19) and Padres (29-18) face off again on Tuesday. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m.
Emmet Sheehan (3-1, 4.54 ERA) is on the mound for the Dodgers. The Padres are starting Griffin Canning (0-1, 10.64 ERA).
