Though they've been producing towering offensive numbers on the road as of late, the Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to secure a series sweep against the Athletics in Sacramento, with the A's coming away with a 7-1 win.

With the shakeup of the rotation brought to you by manager Dave Roberts, the Dodgers threw up a bullpen game Wednesday night that was opened up by Jack Dreyer.

Dreyer pitched a perfect inning in the first, striking out the side, and handed the ball to newly recalled southpaw Charlie Barnes.

The A's bounced on Barnes, driving in six earned runs on 11 hits in the lefty's seven innings of work.

Barnes' seven innings of work mark the longest relief appearance by a Dodger since Mitch White tossed 7.2 innings of relief back in August 2021.

Despite what the final stat line showed, the most important number was located in the innings pitched category. Though it was a self-titled "bullpen game," Barnes saved the bullpen a boatload of innings before a long homestand beginning on Thursday.

The only source of offense for Los Angeles came in the third inning when Freddie Freeman cranked his 14th home run of the season to the berm in right field to tie the game at 1-1.

Overall, Dodgers hitters left eight men on base and went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.

With the loss, the Dodgers finish off their last road trip of the first half 7-for-9. They drop to a 56-31 record, but hold a commanding 12-game lead over the San Diego Padres, whom they will welcome to Dodger Stadium to kick off a four-game series on Thursday.

Los Angeles will be sending the cavalry with their pitching probables when they face the Padres at home. Roki Sasaki will kick it off in the series opener, Shohei Ohtani on Friday, Yoshinobu Yamamoto on Saturday and Emmet Sheehan rounds it out on Sunday.
