The Los Angeles Dodgers took the first game of the series against the New York Mets Monday night, winning 4-0.

Pitcher Justin Wrobleski got the start and made the most of his opportunity, pitching eight scoreless innings and allowing only two hits.

Even more impressive, he did it all on just 90 pitches. Tanner Scott, who pitched the ninth, gave up only one more hit and preserved the shutout.

Wrobleski said after the game that putting Scott in was manager Dave Roberts’ decision, but he had no reason to argue against it, per Sonja Chen of MLB.com.

“Something that I’ve got to earn,” he said. “If Doc tells me right now, ‘We’re gonna go with Tanner [Scott],’ I trust in Doc.”

Roberts said the team was considering Wrobleski’s health when they pulled him.

“I think for me, the decision was he hasn’t gone more than five innings in a long time, so now you’re talking about the health of the player,” Roberts said. “For him to get up eight times and to throw the baseball the way he did, you could see the velocity start to go down. … He had a heck of a ballgame, he was efficient, those guys were swinging.”

That said, Wrobleski indicated that in the future, he’d like to throw a complete game if the chance arises.

“I’m hoping there’s plenty of other opportunities like that to get a complete game,” Wrobleski said. “That’s something that I think is really cool, not a lot of people do it anymore. … I’m going to try to keep building and get myself in a spot where hopefully I can complete some of those.”

Andy Pages Stays Hot
