Dodgers could make Tarik Skubal trade for historic Yankees reason no one is considering originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will be interested in Tarik Skubal, whether in the offseason or at the trade deadline. Doing so at the trade deadline would require the Dodgers to move on from many assets, while attempting to sign him in the offseason would be more focused on spending a whole lot of money.
There's even a chance the Dodgers are interested in doing both.
Some have quieted the ideas that the Dodgers could go after Skubal, though I don't think that's a fair remark.
Contending teams always want pitching. Considering he's going to be the best one available, it should simply never be counted out. As long as Skubal is available, the Dodgers are going to show some level of interest.
There's also a historic reason, with the New York Yankees being the last team to accomplish that, that some aren't thinking about. The Dodgers are looking to go back-to-back-to-back, being the first team to do so since the 2000 Yankees.
“The Dodgers' contention window is not at risk of closing immediately, but they do roster the oldest position-player group in the Majors (30.6 weighted years), and some core players like the 33-year-old Mookie Betts (.196 average) are demonstrating decline. There is also the incentive that is chasing history, as the Dodgers are attempting to be the first franchise to three-peat since the 1998-2000 New York,” Travis Sawchik of MLB.com wrote.
Three-peating in this era of Major League Baseball is flat-out ridiculous to even think about, but it shows how good the Dodgers have been. We all know that's at the top of their priority list, so don't be surprised if Skubal is who they go after at the deadline.
